McNeill: Unions will remain strong despite Supreme Court decision
ALLENTOWN, June 27 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill said the U.S. Supreme Court’s Janus decision will not stop union efforts to help working people across Pennsylvania.
“While this decision will signal to some that it’s OK for people to leave unions, it’s important to remember that unions will never leave working people. Because of unions, we have a minimum wage. Because of unions, we have an eight-hour work day. Because of unions, we have rules limiting underage labor. And because of unions, we will continue to have workers who truly believe in what public service is all about. No court case will stop the union movement,” said McNeill, D-Lehigh.
“I’m proud of my many years as a union member when I worked as a skills trainer with those with special needs. America was borne on the sweat equity of hardworking men and women and we will only continue to be a great country if labor maintains its strong position in our society.
“As a member of the House Labor and Industry Committee, I remain committed to ensuring that our state laws benefit working people over corporations that cut wages and benefits. We must stand together in order to move the economy forward.”
