Working to Implement Act 28 and Strengthen Outdoor Recreation
The House Game and Fisheries Committee held a hearing yesterday to discuss implementation of Act 28 of 2025, which addresses Abandoned and Derelict Vessels. Pennsylvania is one of the first states to tackle abandoned boats through legislation, and the hearing focused on how best to implement the law to protect our waterways, public safety, and local communities.
After the hearing, I attended the Great American Outdoor Expo at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. While there I met with leaders from the Fish and Boat Commission and the Game Commission, as well as representatives from organizations that support hunting and fishing across Pennsylvania. These conversations highlighted opportunities to strengthen outdoor recreation, conservation, and responsible stewardship of our natural resources.
Meeting with Harbor Creek Superintendent
We welcomed Dr. Buckley Cook, Superintendent of the Harbor Creek School District, to our office to discuss funding for academic programs and building renovations. I appreciated the opportunity to hear directly about the district’s priorities and the investments needed to support student success.
Harbor Creek School District’s strong student achievement helps make Harborcreek Township an attractive place for families to live and raise children. I remain committed to working with local leaders to support quality schools and safe, well-maintained facilities.
Prepare for a Career in Policing
The Mercyhurst University Municipal Police Training Academy is now recruiting for its next Basic Police Training class, beginning in July 2026.
The Academy prepares municipal and regional officers across Northwestern Pennsylvania to meet all MPOETC requirements and builds the skills needed for professional, community-focused policing.
If you or someone you know is interested in public service and a career protecting our neighborhoods, please visit PoliceAcademy.Mercyhurst.edu for program details, admission requirements, testing information, and application deadlines.
Grow PA Grant Program Now Accepting 2026–27 Applications
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) is now accepting applications for the Grow PA Grant Program for the 2026–27 school year. Established by Act 89 of 2024, Grow PA is designed to expand opportunities for Pennsylvania’s workforce by helping students pursue training and education in high-demand occupations.
Qualified students may receive a maximum award of $5,000 per year, and the grant may be renewed for up to four years. If you are considering postsecondary education or workforce training, this program may help make those opportunities more affordable.
