It has been 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As we reflect on that day, we remember the lives lost and pay tribute to the heroes who stepped forward with extraordinary bravery, compassion, and selflessness.

Their legacy continues to remind us of the strength that comes from unity and resilience. May we carry those values forward as we honor their memory.

Erie’s Labor Day Parade was a wonderful tribute to the hardworking men and women who built this community and continue to keep it moving forward. The pride and dedication shown throughout the day were truly inspiring.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of Erie’s workers—and especially to the members of organized labor—whose perseverance and commitment have secured so many of the rights and protections we benefit from today. Their efforts and advocacy have shaped our community in meaningful ways, and Labor Day is the perfect moment to recognize that legacy.

We were pleased to welcome more than 25 members of the Pennsylvania House to Erie this week for a hearing focused on tourism and fishing in our region. During the visit, our Waterways Conservation Officers shared important insight into their work protecting anglers, boaters, and our waterways. Members also toured the Erie Maritime Museum, received a behind-the-scenes look at the Erie Zoo, and even had the chance to get out on the water for some walleye fishing.

For many legislators, this was their first time experiencing Erie, and they left with a strong impression of our community’s strengths and potential. Their support will be invaluable as we continue advocating for funding and investment in our region.

A special thank-you to the SONS of Lake Erie for hosting a fish fry for the delegation, and to Governor Ridge for joining us for dinner. Their contributions helped make the visit both memorable and productive.

On Thursday, PennDOT officially reopened the Bayfront Connector at State Street—marking a major step forward for this important project. The pace of work has been impressive, with PennDOT running about a month ahead of schedule.

Early reactions from drivers have been strongly positive, with many noting the improved flow of traffic and the high quality of the upgrades. As you travel through the newly reopened stretch, please continue to use caution, as crews are still active in nearby areas.
