Honoring Mercyhurst University’s Centennial Milestone
As Mercyhurst University celebrates its Centennial, it’s a moment to reflect on its remarkable journey and continued growth.
From the vision of Mother Borgia Egan and the Sisters of Mercy, who founded a women’s college on the hill in 1926, to the vibrant Division I coeducational university it is today, Mercyhurst has embodied its motto: Carpe Diem. Over the past century, the university has grown, evolved, and continued its commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities for students across generations.
It was an honor to present a House Citation to Mercyhurst University on behalf of the entire Erie delegation in recognition of this remarkable achievement.

Celebrating Serafin’s 100 Years of Community Service
My colleague, state Rep. Pat Harkins, and I were honored to recognize Dan Serafin and his outstanding team as they mark an incredible milestone—the store’s 100th year serving our community. For generations, Serafin’s has been a reliable stop for everyday needs, whether it’s milk, bread, stamps, or even handling utility payments.
Dan’s stewardship of his family’s business is truly inspiring. His dedication is a big part of why Serafin’s has remained a trusted and beloved cornerstone of Erie for a full century.
