Harkins, Merski: Mercyhurst Prep awarded state school safety grant

Grants can be used to fund safety equipment, programs

ERIE, Feb. 10 – State Reps. Bob Merski and Pat Harkins today announced Mercyhurst Prep has been awarded a $5,145 state grant as part of the state’s Safe Schools grant program.

“I want to congratulate Mercyhurst Prep for being selected to receive one of these competitive grants,” said Merski, who is a former teacher. “I know firsthand how important it is for students to feel safe and secure in schools so they can focus on their education.”

“Every student deserves to learn, and every teacher deserves to educate in a safe learning environment,” said Harkins. “By investing in our schools, whether that is safety programs, books or technology, we’re investing our students’ futures, and helping make sure all of them have a chance to succeed.”

The grant awarded to Mercyhurst Prep was one of 166 awarded statewide as part of the $8 million program. The full list of awardees can be found on the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Office for Safe School website.
