Merski, Harkins: Over $500K secured for traffic signal upgrades
Will update signal equipment at crucial intersections in Summit Township

ERIE, Aug. 4 – Safer, smarter traffic signals are coming to Summit Township thanks to $533,988 in Green Light-Go funding announced today by state Reps. Bob Merski and Pat Harkins.
The funding will upgrade signals at Waterford Street and Bloomfield Avenue, Douglas Parkway and Commons Drive, and multiple locations along Perry Highway.
“These investments will make daily travel safer and more predictable for families, workers, and visitors,” Merski said. “By updating our signals, we’re reducing delays and improving the experience on our most traveled roads.”
“Modern signal controllers and better detection will help traffic move the way it should—smoothly and on time,” Harkins said. “These upgrades cut unnecessary delays and keep our busiest corridors responsive when demand spikes.”
The funding is part of a statewide grant package awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Green Light-Go program.
Green Light-Go grants are provided on a reimbursement basis to municipalities for improvements that enhance the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals. The projects will be funded through the fiscal year 2026–27 appropriation. Eligible improvements include, but are not limited to, installing light-emitting diode technology, traffic signal retiming, developing special event traffic plans, monitoring signal performance, and upgrading signals to the latest technologies.
