Mullery reaction to Wolf budget proposal

HARRISBURG, Feb. 4 – State Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Luzerne,  offered the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2020-21 budget plan, which was unveiled today:

“I am hopeful the governor’s ambitious plan to reform Pennsylvania charter schools, while increasing the basic and special education subsidies, will allow our local districts to operate without the need for additional property tax increases. Closing obscene charter school loopholes should drive millions of dollars back into our local school districts.

“That being said, it is discouraging to see tens of millions of budget dollars directed to the failing Department of Human Services for community-based care programs, without any concern for the hundreds of Pennsylvanians residing at White Haven and Polk centers. Once again, Governor Wolf has turned his back on those residents, their families, and caregivers,” Mullery said.
