Greater Nanticoke schools receive $19,300 state grant

HARRISBURG, Nov. 17 – The Greater Nanticoke Area School District was awarded a $19,300 Safe Schools Equipment Grant by the state Department of Education, according to state Rep. Gerald Mullery.

“When students are in school, their focus should be solely on learning. Likewise, teachers’ attention should be on the task at hand, that is, making sure that students understand the lesson of the day. Neither group should have any concerns about whether they are safe, because that already should be taken care of as a practical matter for every classroom and school building,” said Mullery, D-Luzerne.

“I’m glad to see the Greater Nanticoke Area School District receive state funding to ensure that this is happening.”

The goals of the grants are:

  • to assist schools in reducing unnecessary student disciplinary actions and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and training; and
  • to assist schools in procuring the resources and training necessary to create a physical environment that fosters the safety and well-being of students and staff.
