Youth Advisory Council applicants sought by Mullery

NANTICOKE, March 1 – State Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Luzerne, announced that applications for the 119th Legislative District's inaugural Youth Advisory Council will be accepted through March 31.

“I always enjoy meeting and speaking with the young people in my district who are committed to service and making our small piece of Pennsylvania, and the world, a better place. Listening to the young survivors of the recent shooting in Parkland, Florida, has inspired me to be more proactive in giving the next generation a platform to discuss what is important to them and offer suggestions and solutions moving forward,” Mullery said. “I am extremely excited to launch this council – and ready to listen and learn from the best and brightest students from our district.”

Applicants must be enrolled in Hazleton Area High School, Crestwood High School, Greater Nanticoke Area High School, Hanover Area High School, Wyoming Valley West High School, MMI Preparatory School or Holy Redeemer High School.

Council members will have a chance to meet with peers from the legislative district to discuss important issues, help discover solutions, and consider ways to involve their classmates locally. The council will work directly with Mullery and his staff to collaborate on key issues for young people in the region.

An online application is available by clicking here. In addition to basic identifying information, applicants must provide a short statement of why they would like to be on the council, a short list of topics they would like to discuss if selected to be on the council and the name of a high school teacher willing to provide a reference.
