Local business to benefit from low-interest state loan

HARRISBURG, Feb. 6 – State Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Luzerne, announced today a new low-interest loan approval through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority for a local business in Luzerne County. American Paper Bag, located in Sugar Notch, was approved for a $1.4 million, 10-year loan at a 3.75 percent interest rate. A manufacturer of paper shopping bags and mailers, the loan will allow the business to expand and purchase equipment, including two bag production machines and one flex printer. “I am happy to see assistance coming to a quality business here in Luzerne County,” Mullery said. “When investments are made in local businesses, family-sustaining jobs are created, benefiting our whole community. I look forward to seeing how this loan will further the success of American Paper Bag.” American Paper Bag was one of three recipients approved for a loan. The project will enable a new printing process to offer clients an enhanced variety of shapes, sizes and designs for products, and is expected to create 38 full-time jobs in three years. PIDA is an independent authority staffed and regulated through the Department of Community and Economic Development. Hazleton airport receives $112,500 grant

HARRISBURG, Dec. 6 – Hazleton Regional Airport today was awarded an $112,500 state grant, announced Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Luzerne. Mullery said the airport will use the funding to acquire equipment to maintain the airfield. “It’s always important to improve our regional assets and this grant will help the airport maintain its operations for years to come. I thank the Wolf administration for recognizing the Hazleton Regional Airport during this round of grants,” Mullery said. In total, 26 airports across the state will be receiving over $6 million in state investment. Included in the grants is $2.2 million in state funding from PennDOT’s Aviation Development Program, which comes from the state’s jet fuel tax, and $4 million from the Multimodal Transportation Fund. Mullery: Local recreation improvement projects receive state funding

NANTICOKE, Nov. 16 – State Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Luzerne, today announced more than $70,000 in grants from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources was awarded for recreation improvement projects in Luzerne County. The Cindy Street Playground in West Hazleton received a $40,000 grant while the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor received $32,800 for trail development in Fairview and Wright townships. “It is incredibly important to provide our communities with quality recreational opportunities,” Mullery said. “I commend local partners for their work to ensure families now and for generations to come can enjoy the outdoors here in Northeast Pennsylvania, and I look forward to continuing my support in Harrisburg for these projects.” The funding for the Cindy Street Playground will be used to construct and install pedestrian walkways, parking areas, play equipment, handicap access, project signage and other related site improvements. The funding for the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor will be used to prepare a trail study to develop approximately 3 miles of trail in Fairview and Wright townships. Funding comes from the Keystone Fund, which is generated from a portion of the realty transfer tax; Environmental Stewardship Fund; ATV/Snowmobile Fund license fees; and federal money including the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Mullery: West Hazleton business to expand and create more jobs

WEST HAZLETON, Nov. 7 – State Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Luzerne, announced that Summit Utility Structures LLC has been approved for a $1 million low-interest loan through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority. Mullery said the company will purchase machinery and equipment to be installed at its new manufacturing facility in West Hazleton Borough. “Job creation is vital in our area and this project will create 25 full-time jobs and help retain 42 additional jobs,” Mullery said. “I am very excited Summit has decided to expand here in the 119 th Legislative District and offer family-sustaining wage jobs for my constituents.” The company plans to acquire a CNC plate processor, welding equipment, sand blaster, long seamer and overhead cranes. This month, PIDA approved a total of more than $3 million in low-interest loans to projects statewide, including Luzerne County. Mullery said that in 2018, PIDA approved $76.5 million in low-interest loans that have resulted in $109.5 million in private investment and supported 4,167 created and retained full-time jobs. “I am pleased the PIDA board felt the West Hazleton project warranted approval,” Mullery said.
