Mullins announces $25,000 school safety grant awarded to Lackawanna County school district
HARRISBURG, Oct. 18 – The Valley View School District will receive a $25,000 school safety grant, state Rep. Kyle Mullins, D-Lackawanna, announced today.
Mullins said the funding will enable the district to purchase safety and security-related equipment to help reduce and prevent violent incidents. This grant follows similar school safety funding awarded earlier this year to Dunmore, Mid Valley, and Valley View school districts, all located within Mullins' House district.
“Protecting our schoolchildren is one of the most important and essential investments we can make,” Mullins said. “This funding will help to ensure our schools are not only safe and secure learning environments for students, but for our hardworking teachers and faculty, as well.”
The funding – awarded in the form of a 2019-20 School Equipment grant – is made available through the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Safe Schools Targeted Grants. It is part of the $7.3 million in School Safety Grants being awarded to both public and non-public school districts throughout the commonwealth.
