Mullins, Welby announce $2.3 million investment for Scranton

SCRANTON, Nov. 30 – State Reps. Kyle Mullins and Thom Welby, both D-Lackawanna, today announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has awarded nearly $2.35 million in grant funding to several park rehabilitation projects in the 112th and 113th legislative districts.

“Our residents deserve safe, clean and accessible parks and other outdoor recreational opportunities,” Mullins said. “I am grateful for the state’s recognition of the importance of enhancing our wonderful community assets. I will continue to advocate for these investments in our region as they undoubtedly improve the quality of life in our community.”

“Making an investment in our parks means making an investment in our community,” Welby said. “I want to thank the DCNR for recognizing the importance of these projects, which will provide family-friendly environments for current and future generations.”

The DCNR grants were made available through the Community Conservation Partnership Program. The following parks received funds:

  • Nay Aug Park - $2 million for the construction of pool, spray park, bathhouse and pavilion; installation of filtration and recirculation systems, utilities and fencing; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.
  • Weston Park - $198,000 for the renovation of pool building and parking areas; construction of pedestrian walkway, internal loop trail and stormwater management measures; installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.
  • Connell Park -$149,400 for the renovation of concession building; construction of dog park, pedestrian walkway, internal loop trail and stormwater management measures; installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.
