Deadline to appeal your property tax assessment extended

It's a great day for Philadelphians!

This week we celebrated the official Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting of the PhilaPort Cruise Terminal marking the complete return of regular cruise operations to the city after 15 years. The project is projected to create over 2,100 jobs and inject roughly $300 million annually into the regional economy.

Tax Assistance Programs & Centers

Did your property value increase? You still have time to appeal it! The deadline is extended to Oct. 5.

Philadelphia homeowners can now apply for multiple property tax relief programs using a single, streamlined application. Five relief applications have been merged into one to simplify the process for you. There’s still time to apply for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program

If you are 65 or older, a widow or widower age 50 or older, or at least 18 years old with a permanent disability, you may qualify for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program and receive a rebate on your rent or property taxes.

I voted to expand this program and, as a result, thousands more people are eligible and receiving larger rebates.

Expanding Amtrak commuter options

Great news! Amtrak’s Pennsylvanian service between NYC and Pittsburgh, via Harrisburg, will expand from once daily to twice daily! More people will now have the opportunity to travel on upgraded, safer rail lines, easing commuter burdens.

PA House Democrats have been working towards this for a long time – thanks to Gov. Shapiro for getting it across the finish line!

Remember, elections happen more than just every four years – and each vote is a chance to shape the future you want to see.

Some key dates to keep in mind for 2026:

LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE: October 19

LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR MAIL-IN BALLOT OR ABSENTEE BALLOT: October 27

GENERAL ELECTION DATE: November 3; polls are open for in-person voting from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

If you get too close to Election Day without mailing your completed ballot, the city has several secure ballot drop boxes and satellite election offices available to ensure your vote is counted.

Just remember to get your completed ballot there by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3.

Bridge Repair Scheduled Saturday Section of Interstate 95 South in Philadelphia

Saturday, August 29, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, lane closures will be in place on the two left lanes of I-95 south between Route 63 (Woodhaven Road) and Academy Road.

Bridge Construction Close I-76 East Center City Philadelphia

Monday, August 31, through Thursday, September 3, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured between the I-676 and 30th Street interchanges. During the closure, drivers will be directed to use Arch Street/30th Street, Chestnut Street, and Schuylkill Avenue.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area or along the detour route because backups and delays will occur.

PennDOT is replacing the Market Street bridges over Amtrak and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), redecking the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River, and replacing the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River Trail and CSX Railroad on the east side of the river.

Sunday, August 30, through Thursday, September 3, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, lane closures will be in place on I-95 South between the Betsy Ross Bridge and Allegheny Avenue interchanges.
