My staff and I had a great time at the 8th Police District's 5th Annual Wiffle Ball Tournament.

What a great way to show our support to the hard working men and women in blue! It was great to see so many people of the community out and having fun.

Pennsylvania Has Most Teacher Preparation Programs Accredited by the International Dyslexia Association in the Nation

Students with dsylexia deserve teachers who have extensive training from an International Dyslexia Association accrediation. IDA accreditation is a rigorous process, as it should be. It requires multi-year coursework review, clinical practice and following IDA literacy standards.

I’m proud that out of the 37 IDA accredited programs in the nation, nine of them are right here in PA. Thanks to the PA Dept. of Education’s commitment to literacy, our teachers will have another tool to help students excel in literacy.

Apply for the Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy

The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs’ (DMVA) Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy (KSCA) is now accepting applications for its first class of 2027, which begins in January.

The academy’s mission is to provide 16- to 18-year-old teens in jeopardy of not graduating on time or dropping out of school with a second chance at learning skills such as leadership, self-discipline, health and hygiene, public service, physical fitness and more. There is no tuition cost to attend, and meals, housing, uniforms and school supplies are provided at no charge.

With KSCA’s online eligibility checker at www.pa.gov/ksca, applicants can quickly confirm their eligibility before completing the full application. Applicants can also request a mailed form by emailing RA-MVPACHALLENGE@pa.gov or calling 717-861-7767 or 717-861-8831.
