Kosierowski announces nearly $800K in funding for streetscape and recreational improvements throughout the district
HARRISBURG, Nov. 19 -- State Rep. Bridget M Kosierowski, D-Lackawanna, today announced a total of $795,890 in funding has been awarded to three projects in the boroughs of Dickson City, Clarks Summit and Fells Township.
“Today’s announcement is great news for the boroughs of Dickson City, Clarks Summit and for residents in Fells Township,” said Kosierowski. “These investments aren’t just about landscaping, which is sadly the big misconception when people hear about streetscape programs, or rails to trails programs -- especially when projects like these do so much to enhance pedestrian and motorist safety. These projects involve so much more in order to create functional and safer multimodal corridors, in addition to benefitting families of all ages by providing important and continued recreational opportunities.”
According to Kosierowski, the $700,000 awarded to the Dickson City project, which has a total cost of $2.9 million, consists of 1,950 linear feet of improvements along Main Street from Jackson Street to Dundaff Street and will include: streetlights, sidewalks, curbs, ADA-crosswalks, landscaping, benches, trashcans, stormwater drainage and bike lanes. Funding for the project is provided via the CFA Multimodal Transportation Fund. More information about that program is available here.
Kosierowski said the $55,000 awarded in Clarks Summit to the Abington Area Joint Recreation Board will aid in the construction of a pole building at Hillside Park in South Abington Township. Once complete, the structure will be used to store maintenance equipment and also serve as a public pavilion. The remaining $40,890 awarded to Fells Township will be utilized to purchase and construct a public pavilion within Jefferson Park.
The funding for the projects comes from the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund Program and the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program. More information about the CFA and the funding programs can be found here.
