McNeill, Miller help acquire funding for community improvement projects

HARRISBURG, July 16 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill and Sen. Nick Miller today announced $4.2 million in grant funding from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which will support multiple construction projects within their community.

“These projects reflect the kind of investments that make a real difference in our communities,” said McNeill. “Whether it is transforming a long-vacant property into a productive new development, improving infrastructure at our regional airport, or creating modern recreational space for local families and student-athletes, this funding will have a lasting impact. I am glad to see these projects moving forward because they will strengthen our local economy, improve quality of life, and build on the assets that make our region a great place to live and work.”

“These strategic investments will strengthen our neighborhoods and position the Lehigh Valley to lead,” said Miller. “Every one of these projects represents conversations with local leaders and continuous advocacy to ensure these projects receive the investments they deserve. I am proud to have secured this funding alongside Rep. McNeill as we continue fighting for brighter futures for every Lehigh Valley resident.”

The following projects in the district have been awarded funding:

  • $2.75 million to the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority for improvements to the Lehigh Valley International Airport Parking Garage. The garage will consist of five levels, providing approximately 1,000 additional public parking spaces, and more than double the quantity of ADA-accessible parking spaces. This project also includes procurement of the following major equipment: up to four large capacity elevators; parking access and revenue control equipment; 14 electric vehicle charging stations; various life/health/safety equipment.
  • $1.2 million to Whitehall Township to redevelop a long-abandoned site which will be repurposed for commercial or mixed-use development.
  • $250,000 to the Allentown Central Catholic High School Inc. to construct a multi-purpose athletic facility, including a turf field, running track, a small press box, and spectator seating. It also entails the construction of restroom facilities, snack stand, a garden area, storage facilities for equipment, a lighting and sound system, and parking.

RACP is a commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.

These projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenue, or other measures of economic activity.
