Flynn to host House Democratic Policy Committee hearing on property taxes Wednesday in Scranton
SCRANTON, Oct. 27 – State Rep. Marty Flynn, D-Lackawanna, today announced he will host a House Democratic Policy Committee public hearing to discuss property taxes at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, Ballroom, 700 Lackawanna Ave., Scranton.
Flynn requested the hearing as a prelude to the Nov. 7 constitutional amendment ballot question that would enable the General Assembly to increase the property tax exemption from 50 percent to 100 percent of the homestead value. If the ballot question passes, it would change the state constitution and allow the legislature to begin the legislative process of making this change into law.
Anyone wishing to submit a written statement to be entered into the hearing’s record should call Flynn’s office at 570-342-4348.
Policy Committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, will attend with other committee members from across the state.
The current agenda is:
10 a.m. – Welcome and opening remarks
10:10 a.m. – Dr. Michael Mahon, superintendent, Abington Heights School District
10:40 a.m. – Ronald Koldjeski, deputy director, Lackawanna County Tax Claim Bureau
11:10 a.m. – Brian Rinaldi, business manager, Old Forge School District
