Updates from Rep. O'Mara

Dear Neighbor,

Happy Earth Week! This week, April 21 – 27, is recognized as Earth Week in Pennsylvania and I hope that you have some time to enjoy our natural world!

As you’re outside, please be aware that PA is expecting an active tick season this year. You can learn more about tick safety here.
Senior Breakfast – This Friday!
I hope you'll join me Friday morning!
Community Forum on Hate & Anti-Semitism in Delaware County – Tonight

Tonight, I’ll be speaking at a community forum at Temple Sholom in Broomall on hate and anti-Semitism here in Delaware County. I’ll be joined by other officials to talk about what we can do and how we can work together to stop the spread of hate in our backyard. I hope you’ll consider joining us for this important conversation.

You can learn more here.
Springfield Loyalty Day - April 27

This Saturday, April 27, is the 27th Annual Loyalty Day Ceremony in Springfield to honor our local police, fight department and ambulance corps. I am honored to be attending and thanking our first responders in person! Be sure to check out my social media for updates from the event.
Rep. O’Mara in the community

I was at Community Day Celebrating Prevention this weekend and enjoyed meeting with residents and learning more about recovery and prevention.
Together, we can break the stigma and help ensure people get the health care they need and deserve.

Thank you to American Legion Post 805 for hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for families in Broomall. I was happy to be there and see the kids get lots of candy!

Fair Districts Rally
I joined a rally with Fair Districts to show my support for H.B. 22 and H.B. 23, which would provide for an independent redistricting commission.

New maps for all districts for the state and federal government will be drawn after the 2020 census. These bills intend to make sure that politicians don't draw the lines - and that the districts are fair. This means better representation for you, the voters.

I believe that we can put an end to gerrymandering and use a nonpartisan and independent redistricting commission to ensure that all Pennsylvanians have their voices heard. I'm proud to support this effort and am looking forward to continuing my work for you in Harrisburg.

Community informational session

There will be a community information session on the new medical marijuana dispensary opening in Morton tonight, April 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Morton Borough Hall.

Please consider attending to learn more.
Recreational Marijuana Listening Tour
Last night, I joined Lt. Gov John Fetterman on his Recreational Marijuana Listening Tour stop in Delco. I was joined by other Delco state representatives and Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon. Thank you to all the residents who attended to share their opinions. We had opinions voiced from both sides of the issue and a few people who are undecided also spoke up.

We had 38 residents share their thoughts and a few themes were shared by many of our speakers, including decriminalization and releasing people who have been incarcerated as part of legalization. Other speakers shared frustration that no research can be done until the federal government removes marijuana from schedule 1 and their hopes that we can find way to regulate responsibly.

I thank Lt. Gov. John Fetterman for visiting Delco and hearing the opinions of residents here. If you weren’t able to attend, but would like to share your thoughts with the lieutenant governor, please visit this link.

PennDOT updates
PennDOT is looking for feedback from residents on this year’s winter services. You can take the short survey here. This is a great way for PennDOT to hear from you and improve their services. The survey is open to the public until May 7.

And, don’t forget that you can report potholes on state roads to my office. Thanks to PennDOT for all the work they’ve been doing this spring to repair our roads!
