Philadelphia House Delegation celebrates grant for rec center improvements

HARRISBURG, Dec. 18 The Philadelphia House Delegation announced that $64,313 in Local Share Account funding was awarded to implement a recycling and trash program at 35 City-owned recreation centers within Philadelphia.

“Our city recreation centers are vital community hubs, and investing in modern recycling and waste infrastructure helps keep them clean, sustainable and welcoming for families across Philadelphia,” said House Majority Appropriations Chairman Jordan A. Harris, D-Phila. “This funding will support practical, on-the-ground improvements that advance the city’s environmental goals while improving daily quality of life for residents. As majority chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, I am committed to making smart investments that support a cleaner, greener Philadelphia.”

Approximately 3,365 recycling containers of various sizes and 210 65-gallon rolling trash cans will be purchased and deployed to the recreation centers, along with the installation of appropriate informational signage with clear guidance on proper recycling procedures.

“Our many neighborhood rec centers are where our kids grow up with afterschool programs and sports, families connect and build communities, and seniors connect with resources. Awards like this are crucial to reduce waste, improve recycling rates and support Philadelphia's Greenworks Clean and Green Initiative to help these centers remain a fundamental community core,” said Philadelphia House Delegation Chairwoman Rep. Morgan Cephas, D-Phila.

This is one of 76 LSA awards granted to the City of Philadelphia for a total of $27,422,069.
