Philadelphia was awarded $675,000 for renovation of an underutilized community recreation center at Granahan Playground. The renovated building will include a multi-use space, a kitchenette, updated restrooms, and office and storage space. Granahan Playground functions as a town square and a renovated community space will support the programming and activities at the park.
The Cobbs Creek Restoration and Community Foundation was awarded $775,000 for construction of a golf starter house for their historic golf course to be an essential entry point to the campus, promoting inclusive golf opportunities for the community.
“These community spaces are such an important part of the fabric of our neighborhoods in West Philadelphia. These renovations will uplift these areas and allow the organizations to focus their purpose for unifying the community,” Cephas said.
Cephas also supported a grant of $43,000 that was awarded to the City Avenue Special Services District of Philadelphia and Lower Merion for purchase of a truck. The truck will be upfitted with lighting and wrapped with a City Ave. District design to provide greater visibility for the Community Service Representatives team to ensure their safety during inclement weather and times of increased traffic. The CSR team provides an additional community watch via bike patrol and assists police and first responders by providing critical information.
Philadelphia Parks & Recreation was also awarded $150,000 through the Commonwealth Financing Authority Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program for Baker Playground Accessibility Improvements.
The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
