Pashinski, Flynn announce over $3.7 million in state grants

WILKES-BARRE, Dec. 19 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, along with Sen. Marty Flynn, D-Lackawanna/Luzerne, announced the approval of more than $3.7 million in Local Share Account grants to support critical infrastructure, public safety, municipal services, and community facility improvements across Luzerne County.

“These LSA grants represent a direct reinvestment of gaming revenue back into our communities,” Pashinski said. “From public safety upgrades and road improvements to municipal equipment and community facilities, these funds will help local governments and organizations deliver real, tangible benefits to our residents. I am most appreciative to Senator Flynn for his never-ending support.”

“I’m proud to work alongside my colleague, Representative Eddie Day Pashinski, and our other House members in supporting this funding for our communities,” Flynn said. “These investments help address important local needs and support projects that improve safety, infrastructure, and essential services. Working together allows us to make sure this funding reaches the communities that need it most.”

The approved projects span multiple municipalities and address a wide range of local needs, including emergency services, public works equipment, facility rehabilitation, and safety and security enhancements.

LSA grant awards include:

  • Luzerne County Convention Center Authority – Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza safety, security, and signage upgrades, Wilkes-Barre Township$239,757.
  • City of Wilkes-Barre – New cab and chassis refuse trucks with rear compaction packers – $494,013.
  • Plains Township – Municipal building rehabilitation – $173,870.
  • City of Wilkes-Barre – St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church renovation – $91,314.
  • City of Wilkes-Barre – Domestic Violence Service Center HVAC replacement – $107,650.
  • City of Wilkes-Barre – King’s College safety and security project, Phase 2 – $587,435.
  • Plains Township – New Department of Public Works dump and snowplow truck – $81,713.
  • Luzerne County Convention Center Authority – Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza pump, heat exchanger, and accessories replacement project – $870,608.
  • Wilkes-Barre Township – Police vehicle acquisition – $282,124.
  • Laurel Run Borough – Dickerson Street Improvement Project, Phase I – $669,848.
  • Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority – 2024 Rail Freight Assistance Project (Duryea Borough, Plains Township, and City of Wilkes-Barre) – $155,940.

Local Share Account grants are funded through revenue generated by gaming and are administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects that enhance economic development, public infrastructure, and community vitality.
