Pashinski: House Republican budget bill a ‘waste of time’

HARRISBURG, Dec. 8 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, today released the following statement on his negative vote on the House Republican state budget plan for the 2015-16 fiscal year:

“Today, I voted no for the House Republican budget plan that does nothing to properly fund education and human services or fix the structural deficit. This bill put before the House of Representatives today was a complete waste of time and prolongs the budget impasse even further.

“A fiscally responsible budget is five months overdue and it appears the House Republicans can’t get it together. Fortunately, the Senate has approved a bipartisan budget that has the support from House Democrats and Gov. Tom Wolf. Just a few weeks ago, a budget was agreed upon by all acting parties representing the House, the Senate and the governor. However, the Republicans in the House have backed out of this deal today by trying to ramrod another inadequate bare-bones funding plan, which includes about half for education compared to the Senate’s version. Enough is enough.

“We need to stop playing games now and join the Senate in passing this compromise budget bill, and give the people in the commonwealth a budget by next week.”
