Petrarca to introduce resolution to support increased PPE access to child welfare, service providers

VANDERGRIFT, June 8 – Citing their vital role in assisting state and county child welfare and juvenile justice agencies in keeping children safe, state Rep. Joseph Petrarca will soon introduce a resolution to classify child welfare workers and service providers as level 1 emergency responders to ensure they have access to personal protective equipment.

“Due to the current pandemic, many of these workers have had to make drastic changes in how they provide services and care to children in need, including the use of PPE,” said Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong/Indiana. “It’s been made clear to me that many of them do not have adequate access to this equipment, and that’s why I am asking for my colleagues’ support to reclassify them as level 1 emergency responders to ensure they have these necessary tools to continue to help and protect the children they serve.”
