Rozzi resolution celebrates girls and women in sports

HARRISBURG, Feb. 4 – House Resolution 59 sponsored by state Rep. Mark Rozzi, D-Berks, dedicating Feb. 4, 2015 as National Girls and Women in Sports Day was unanimously adopted by the state House today.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day has been celebrated annually since 1987 with community-based activities honoring the achievements. The resolution also encourages girls and women to participate in sports.

"My wife and daughter are talented athletes that inspire me daily. Their athletic experiences have been an outstanding example of how sports teach determination, dedication, team work and commitment to success," Rozzi said.

The theme for this year’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day will focus on what schools can do to protect all student athletes.

"Putting a spotlight on safety in sports is imperative. All too often, athletes are so dedicated and committed to the game that they forget to put their well-being first. We have to do everything in our power to protect student athletes from injuries that could have a life-long impact on their health," Rozzi explained.
