Samuelson, Miller announce more than $97,000 in state funding to Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Co. for hydraulic rescue tools during National EMS Week

HARRISBURG, May 20 – State Rep. Steve Samuelson, D-Northampton, and state Sen. Nick Miller, D-Lehigh/Northampton, today announced that a $97,743 Local Share Account grant for Hanover Township was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

This new grant will go to the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Co. to acquire the latest technology in “Jaws of Life” rescue equipment. The purchase will improve public safety by helping to perform critical extrications during emergency responses. These hydraulic tools continue to improve in their effectiveness, saving valuable time and minimizing injuries to victims trapped in vehicles during collisions and other accidents, building collapses and emergencies where rapid and safe removal of victims can also reduce the risk to the first responders on the scene.

“I am thrilled to work with Sen. Miller to be able to deliver these needed funds for the amazing fire company volunteers who, through their dedication and commitment of time and talent, provide a level of professionalism for residents and businesses 24/7,” Samuelson said. “It’s critical that they are equipped with the latest technology, which is lightweight, compact, and powerful. I’m proud we’re able to support them in their efforts.”

“Volunteer fire companies like Hanover Township’s face growing challenges as they work to protect our communities, making investments like this more important than ever,” Miller said. “This lifesaving equipment will strengthen emergency response capabilities and ensure first responders have the tools they need to protect and save lives. I am proud to yet again partner with Rep. Samuelson to support the safety of Hanover Township residents.”

The grants were approved today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The Local Share Account Programs were created through the 2004 PA Racehorse Development and Gaming Act, which provides for the distribution of gaming revenue to support projects in the public interest within the commonwealth.

Last year, Miller and Samuelson worked together to secure two grants totaling $292,581 to purchase new radios for the HTVFC.
