Sanchez: Abington School District awarded $35,000 in PASmart Grants to advance science, technology education

HARRISBURG, Jan. 21 – State Rep. Ben Sanchez applauded Gov. Tom Wolf today for awarding a PASmart Grant worth $35,000 to Abington School District to help expand computer science classes and teacher training.

“I’m so proud that Abington earned this funding. It’s critical that our young people have a strong background in science, technology, engineering and math to succeed in today’s competitive marketplace,” said Sanchez, D-Montgomery. “This grant will improve educational opportunities for everyone.”

The grants are used to help schools introduce and expand computer science programming and provide educators from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 with training to teach computer science. The grant awardees from across the commonwealth have all prioritized expanding access to computer science for underrepresented students, such as students of color, girls, low-income students and students in rural communities.
