Schlossberg celebrates Jordan Creek Greenway funding

HARRISBURG, Oct. 7 – The vision of completing the Jordan Creek Greenway Trail through Lehigh County took another step forward today as the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced $500,000 for trail segments through South Whitehall Township, according to state Rep. Mike Schlossberg, D-Lehigh.
“This is exciting news for residents of Parkland and Allentown,” Schlossberg said. “Leaders in our region have been working to build this trail for years, with South Whitehall and Allentown leading the charge.”
Schlossberg said this phase of the project will extend the regional trail system by connecting Covered Bridge Park to Parkland High School in South Whitehall. The new segment will start at the Lapp Road parking lot and continue to the entrance road at Parkland High School to Cedar Crest Boulevard.
“While Lehigh County residents do not have a state park to enjoy, we are fortunate to have wonderful parks and trails,” said Schlossberg. “Local and municipal officials deserve tremendous applause for leading the charge in this effort while the Commonwealth provides resources to help get projects over the finish line. I am proud of the work we do and grateful to the Shapiro administration for continuing to invest in our region’s open space and quality of life.”
In June, Schlossberg also celebrated a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announcement of $1.5 million to advance the construction of this segment of the Jordan Creek Greenway. South Whitehall Township most recently completed the construction of another mile of trail connecting Wehr Mill Road to Lapp Road through the Covered Bridge Park in 2024.
