Schlossberg chosen Legislator of the Year by NASW-PA
HARRISBURG, Sept. 18 – State Rep. Mike Schlossberg today was recognized as 2017 National Association of Social Workers-PA Legislator of the Year.
The award was presented during the NASW-PA Annual Social Work Conference luncheon.
“NASW-PA has chosen Representative Michael H. Schlossberg as its 2017 Legislator of the Year due to his record of public service; including his co-sponsorship of House Bill 445, which directly relates to social work practice,” said Benny Brown, director of Government Affairs and Public Policy for the PA Chapter of NASW. “In addition to Representative Schlossberg supporting our profession, we also greatly value his dedication to issues such as education, mental health and women’s rights.”
Brown said the award is the highest honor that NASW-PA can give a public official.
“I am grateful for the work done by social workers across Pennsylvania. They help to support families, individuals in crisis and children who need protection. This recognition, from people who genuinely live compassion every day, means a lot because it is a reminder that so much needs to be done to better lives of individuals, families and communities,” Schlossberg said.
Schlossberg is Democratic co-chairman and co-founder of the Mental Health Caucus, allowing him to focus on helping other members of the General Assembly and Pennsylvania residents to understand mental health issues and concerns.
His efforts have been recognized by various other state and national organizations.
