Schweyer: Valania Park gets $250K for upgrades
ALLENTOWN, Nov. 14 – State Rep. Peter Schweyer, D-Lehigh, has announced a $250,000 state grant to rehabilitate and further develop Valania Park.
Schweyer worked with state Sen. Pat Browne, R-Lehigh, to secure funding for the project.
“Valania Park provides opportunities to our downtown residents to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise in playing with their children or shooting some hoops,” Schweyer said. “I am looking forward to seeing these projects get completed as they will only enhance what the park as to offer.”
The project includes renovating a basketball court, building a pavilion/comfort station, pedestrian walkways and storm drainage, ADA access, landscaping and related site improvements.
The grant was awarded through the DCNR Community Conservation and Partnerships
Program, which provides financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, and trusts, and other nonprofits for planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway projects.
