PAOLI, Oct. 31 – State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, is celebrating the delivery of nearly $2.3 million in grants awarded to various organizations in the 157th Legislative District in the past month.
The funds have supported various projects and organizations, ranging from school infrastructure to transportation improvements to arts and culture grants.
Willistown Township will receive $775,000 in state grants to replace sewer system equipment. Much of the sewer system was constructed in the 1970s, and some pipes have since deteriorated, requiring emergency repairs. This funding will ensure modernization so the sewer system can effectively support the township’s growing population and maintain public health standards.
The Chester County Intermediate Unit will receive a Public School Facility Improvement Grant of $704,550 to replace and upgrade HVAC equipment at Technical College High School Pennock and Technical College High School Pickering campuses.
The new HVAC equipment will improve air quality, provide reliable heating and cooling in program areas, increase energy efficiency, and address various operational issues that negatively affect the student learning environment.
The Intermediate Unit also received another $254,800 from the PA Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center Grants program.
Easttown Township was awarded a $505,000 grant for its Complete Streets Initiative. This funding will enhance the Route 30 corridor in Berwyn, making it a safe, walkable, and vibrant area that serves as an attractive destination. This initiative will help create an economic engine and a community hub -- a valuable investment for residents!
Chabad Lubavitch was awarded $24,000 from the Nonprofit Security Grant Fund Program from the state Commission on Crime & Delinquency.
The Great Valley School District was awarded $15,000 from the PA Farm Bill Farm-to-School grant program. The district plans to purchase local, seasonal produce, yogurt, beef, and other products.
The Wharton Esherick Museum was awarded $14,000 from the PA Historical and Museum Commission’s Cultural and Historical Support Grants that will support programming that celebrates this important local artist.
Historic Sugartown Inc. was awarded $7,500 from the PA Historical and Museum Commission’s Cultural and Historical Support Grants. This funding will enhance educational programming and aid in preserving local history.
Since Oct. 1, 2024, the 157th Legislative District was awarded a total of $2,299,850 in state grants.
“I am proud to secure these funds to bring vast improvements to the 157th Legislative District,” Shusterman said. “With these funds, neighbors and residents can be assured they are living in a happier, safer, and always-improving section of Chester County!”
