I have received some updated information regarding today's train collision in Washington County. Residents who have any questions or concerns, should call the Washington County Emergency Management Agency at 724-228-6700.
Earlier today a CSX train collided with a truck carrying over 4,000 gallons of hydrochloric acid. The railroad line is owned by Norfolk Southern.
Route 88 continues to remain closed between Barneys Run Road and Ridge Road. The driver of the truck was airli...fted to a local hospital and roughly six others are being treated. Approximately 15 to 20 homes have been evacuated, according to the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.
Local emergency officials and PEMA are going door-to-door to facilitate any necessary evacuations and Norfolk Southern Railroad’s hazmat team is on site. At this time, PEMA is working with individuals who have been impacted, as well as evaluating the impact of the acid leak.
As more information becomes available, I will share it with you as your safety is important to me.
