Snyder: State grants to fund improved rail service in Greene, Fayette counties
HARRISBURG, April 30 – State transportation funds totaling nearly $2.1 million will provide improvements to rail freight tracks in Greene and Fayette counties, amounting to much-needed investments in infrastructure, state Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington, announced today.
Snyder said Greene Spur LLC will receive $551,691 to rehabilitate and extend two yard tracks in Greene County. The funds will also provide for the construction of a retaining wall and the purchase of unloading equipment. Southern Pennsylvania Railroad in Fayette County will receive $1.5 million to improve 2.6 miles of track at its FM&P Subdivision location.
“Our region’s coal industry is robust, and these projects will be a boost to advancing our energy production and also attract new businesses and further economic development,” Snyder said. “These investments in rail freight also help to alleviate truck traffic on our roadways by providing shipping by rail, allowing for expanded business freight opportunities now and in the years to come.”
A total of 27 rail freight projects were approved statewide to help create and sustain jobs across the commonwealth.
