Electronics collections to be offered Sept. 25

HARRISBURG, Sept. 9 – For the second time this year, state Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington, and Greene County Commissioners Blair Zimmerman, Dave Coder and Archie Trader will be offering an electronics collection event from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

“We’ve had successful electronics collection events over the past few years, collecting thousands of carloads of electronic devices from Greene County residents,” Snyder said. “These events really make a difference in our overall recycling efforts in the community and ensures that harmful chemicals don’t make their way into our environment through improper disposal.”

Snyder said only one television per vehicle can be accepted, and some waste-handling fees will apply for items containing Freon and for fluorescent tubes.

Electronic items that will be accepted include computers – including laptops, printers and monitors – stereos, cameras, video cassette recorders, telephones, electronic cables, games and calculators.

Items that will not be accepted at the event include the following:

  • sweepers.
  • hair dryers.
  • curling irons.
  • sewing machines.
  • compact discs.
  • alkaline batteries.
  • small kitchen appliances.
  • smoke detectors.
  • thermostats.
  • manuals.
  • paper.
  • Styrofoam.

Greene County residents with questions may call Snyder’s Carmichaels office at 724-966-8953.
