Snyder statement on veto override attempt

CARMICHAELS, Sept. 23 – State Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington, issued a statement following a vote in the PA House that sustained the governor’s veto of H.B. 2787, a bill that would have given school districts the authority to decide what sports and activities are allowed, including practices, games and spectator rules:

“Our school districts know best what works for them and their students regarding sports and other extracurricular activities. They are the experts where it concerns their facilities and their communities, not the governor.

“I have complete confidence in each of the school districts in my communities to conduct these events in a safe manner. Time and time again, I have voted in favor of these and other bills to allow our communities to decide what is best for them. I strongly believe in the right of our school districts to have the final say regarding how sports and other extracurricular activities are allowed and managed.

“While I am disappointed in today’s vote, I will continue to support our school districts’ decisions to act in the best interest of students, parents and the community.”

Snyder voted to override the veto.
