Snyder: $393,688 grant to replace Masontown water mains

(Mar 29, 2017)

CARMICHAELS, March 29 – State Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington, today announced a $393,688 state grant that will substantially fund replacement of leaking water mains along five streets in Masontown. Snyder said the borough is replacing 6,650 lineal feet of faulty water mains, which are compromised and causing inefficiency in the distribution system. The total project cost is $463,163. “I’m pleased to see the lion’s share of funding for this important project coming from the state,” Snyder said. “The borough wants to get rid of its old and problematic galvanized and cement water mains, and this funding helps turn that wish into reality.” The state grant arrives through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s PA Small Water and Sewer grant program, which funds activities to assist with construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply or sanitary sewer system. Eligible projects must have a total project cost between $30,000 and $500,000, and funding is available for municipalities and municipal authorities. Read more

Snyder announces nearly $387,000 in local fire department, EMS grants

(Feb 07, 2017)

HARRISBURG , Feb. 7 – State Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington, has announced the award of $386,923 in state grants to more than two dozen fire and ambulance companies in the 50 th Legislative District. The grants are made possible by the Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program, and can be used toward repairing, building or renovating facilities. The money also can be applied toward the purchase of new equipment, training and certification of staff, or it may go to repay debt related to equipment purchases or facility building and maintenance. “Although they do a tremendous job for our local communities, everyone knows that our volunteer firefighting and EMS organizations face financial challenges,” Snyder said. “They, as well as I, are aware that every penny counts. That’s why I am pleased that the state is providing these much-needed funds.” Snyder noted that recipients still need to complete and return original signed copies of their grant agreements by May 31 in order to receive their money. She urged any department that needs help with this requirement to contact her closest district office. The grant list – by county, department and entity – is as follows: Greene County: $218,284 Bobtown Dunkard Volunteer Fire Department/Ambulance – Fire Company, $12,101; EMS, $7,448 Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Department – Fire Company, $13,895.
