Greene County receives grants to extend Greene River Trail near Rices Landing

Greene County municipalities receive more than $265,000 in state grants

House passes bills bolstering veterans’ benefits, protecting pets

Pam Snyder reports that the House has passed legislation that would enable more veterans to qualify for state programs and a second bill that would make it a summary offense to confine a dog or cat in an unattended motor vehicle when conditions would endanger the well-being of the animal. Overdose-prevention training available Oct. 25 for Greene County residents; Fire/EMS Grant applications due Oct. 21

Pam Snyder reports that free training on administering Naloxone, the heroin/opiate antidote commonly known as Narcan, and overdose-prevention training will be available from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the upper level 4-H Building at the Greene County Fairgrounds. Also, fire and EMS companies are reminded that they have until 4 p.m. Oct. 21 to complete their applications for the state’s 2016-17 Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant. Read more

Bill would increase rural broadband speeds dramatically; Uniontown hearing delves into opioid abuse treatment

Rep. Snyder introduces bill to ‘beef up’ internet service in rural areas

During a public hearing in August to discuss the lack of high-speed internet service in Greene County, Rep. Pam Snyder said it was time for state lawmakers to demand internet providers “beef up their service” in rural areas. Snyder moved forward with that promise Tuesday by introducing legislation in the state House to upgrade the standard for broadband service in Pennsylvania to increase download and upload speeds for rural customers.
