Solomon announces $200,000 grant to continue Carnell Elementary School Project

HARRISBURG, Nov. 1 – State Rep. Jared Solomon today announced that Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association is receiving a $200,388 grant to continue its Green Playscape and Community Design project at Carnell Elementary School.

"Last year, we secured funds to get the project off the ground. This grant is critical in keeping the construction moving forward. I am excited to continue working closely with Carnell Elementary School, Councilwoman Cherelle Parker, and Senator Christine Tartaglione to ensure our students have a safe and welcoming place to play,” said Solomon, D-Phila.

The state funds will go towards making safety improvements to the school's playground, which includes adding walkway bollards, fencing, a quiet recreation area with benches and removing dumpsters from the play area.

The plan also includes converting a grassy area in front of the school to a play space with a retaining wall, decorative fence and playground equipment.

The grant was awarded through the Department of Economic and Community Development's Local Share Account, which distributes a portion of slot machine license operation fees paid by casinos operating within the City of Philadelphia.

Funds are available for economic development, neighborhood revitalization, community improvement, and other projects in the public interest across the city.
