Matzie: Nearly $200,000 awarded for District 16 park improvements

Will fund renovations to parks in Ambridge, Monaca

AMBRIDGE, Jan. 16 – Grant funding of $199,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority will support projects to improve two area parks, state Rep. Rob Matzie announced today.

Matzie, D-Beaver, said the grants awarded under the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program include $125,000 to Ambridge Borough for renovations to P.J. Caul Memorial Park and $74,000 to the borough of Monaca for renovations to the Central Valley Girls Youth Softball Field at John A. Antoline Park.

“The grant to Ambridge will allow the borough to build on improvements to P.J. Caul Park that are making the park more accessible and more inviting for residents,” Matzie said. “The funding to Monaca will support needed renovations to the Antoline Park softball field. Folks love to come out and watch the games and cheer on the players, and the work will help ensure the best experience for everyone.”

The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program – one of several Marcellus Legacy Fund programs administered by CFA under Act 13 of 2012 – provides grants for greenways, recreational trails, open space, parks and beautification projects. For-profit businesses, municipalities, councils of government, authorized organizations, institutions of higher education, and watershed organizations are eligible to apply for funding up to $250,000. A 15% match of the total project cost is required. Projects are funded through Marcellus Shale impact fees collected by the CFA. Last October, Matzie announced $280,400 in funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for P.J. Caul Park work to renovate the plaza, install lighting and utilities, ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, and add other site improvements.
