Please send H.B. 2453 - Upskirting: Justice for Children Victimized in Schools and Elsewhere - to the House floor for consideration. This bill will increase the penalties for an extremely traumatic form of sexual abuse, upskirting, in which a perpetrator takes photographs up a girl’s skirt and then posts the images online.
Currently, the only criminal charges that can be brought against the victimizer are misdemeanors, similar to the charges for shoplifting– up to one year in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,500 in exchange for a lifetime of trauma.
I support H.B. 2453, which would make the offense a felony of the third degree for a first violation and a felony of the second degree for subsequent offenses.
The bill will impose greater penalties on victimizers and offer greater protections to our young girls so they may be safe from this form of sexual abuse in places like schools where their personhood should be safe and allowed to flourish.
Please send this bill to the House Floor.
