Legislation to prevent non-competes for broadcast workers reported out of House Labor and Industry Committee

House Bill 2558, introduced by Rep. Ben Waxman, D-Phila., was voted out of the House Labor and Industry Committee today.

This legislation is aimed at eliminating non-compete agreements for reporters, anchors, producers, editors and other broadcast workers to give those workers more freedom and flexibility in finding work.

“This bill prohibits non-compete agreements for broadcast workers in Pennsylvania,” said Waxman. “People are often confused when their favorite TV personality suddenly relocates to North Carolina or another part of the state, or another part of the country. It’s because this industry has extremely aggressive non-compete agreements as part of many contracts. This bill would eliminate that and give more freedom to broadcast workers.”

The bill was voted out of the committee and now moves to the House chamber for consideration.
