Wheatley hosts event celebrating, promoting minority, women and disadvantaged businesses in Pennsylvania

 

PITTSBURGH, March 18 – State Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Allegheny, today hosted an event in Harrisburg celebrating and promoting minority, women and disadvantaged businesses (MWDBE) in Pennsylvania.

 

“We hear and know the letters MWDBE, but this about more than letters. This is about business owners and entrepreneurs from all corners of this commonwealth who are just looking for a fair opportunity to do business in Pennsylvania,” Wheatley said. “These businesses represent every county and every region of our state. By encouraging minority, women and disadvantaged businesses to thrive and expand, we are strengthening our communities, our families and our spirit of innovation.”

 

Throughout the day, Wheatley hosted networking opportunities for entrepreneurs and business owners, and opportunities to learn about various governmental procurement processes and personnel.

 

The day included a recognition by the House of Representatives of several of the business owners who attended. Those recognized were: Saundra Cole McKamey, founder and executive director of P.O.O.R. L.A.W.; Terri Shields, CEO and executive director of JADA House International; David Williams, owner of Dave’s Barber Shop; Melinda Emerson, founder and president of Quintessence Group; Tara Aldrich, CEO and founder of Educators On Call; Sontaya Perry, owner and founder of Steel City Cleaning Solutions; Marc Coleman, founder, CEO and president of The Tactile Group; Melonease Shaw, chairperson and CEO of Maven Inc.; Angelo Perryman, president and CEO of Perryman Building and Construction Services Inc.; Jamar Cox, owner of Nature’s Grooming; Frederick Douglas Sr., founder and president of Cosmos Technologies Inc.; Dimitra Diggs, principal and founder of Urban Snob; Garry Johnson, founder of Urbinvest, the First Founder’s Accelerator and KnowCapp; Clinetta Hill Jackson, CEO and executive coordinator for Memorable Experience Event Planning; Richard Cottom, founder and president of Sovereign Security; and Tomika McFadden, founder and CEO of Pennsylvania Care Associates.
