Weekend community festival returns to Pittsburgh Aug. 16-18
7th Annual Health and Wellness Weekend includes food, entertainment, kids’ activities & more!
PITTSBURGH, Aug. 7 – Next weekend Pittsburgh residents will have the opportunity to celebrate summer and community at the seventh annual three-day Health and Wellness Weekend in the hearth of the Hill District.
Hosted by state Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Allegheny, the three-day event celebrates and promotes physical, spiritual and environmental wellness in the community.
“This event is one of the highlights of the year for me,” Wheatley said. “This is a wonderful event where residents can learn how to better their physical and mental health, along with their friends and neighbors. And whether it’s running in the 5k, talking with folks in the community, listening to some of our city’s best entertainers or celebrating summer with neighborhood youth, this weekend has something for everyone.”
The weekend will kick-off Friday, Aug. 16 with a public hearing on financial health, at the 3rd floor conference center at BNY Mellon on Grant Street. It will continue that evening with a mixer inside Nova Place, featuring music, networking and celebration. Tickets will be available at the door.
Saturday’s events begin at 8 a.m. with the Historic Hill 5k Run/Walk/Ride on Freedom Corner in the Hill District, with onsite registration opening at 6:30 a.m. The 5k will be followed at noon by a Community Appreciation Day along Centre Avenue, featuring free food, entertainment, kids’ activities and games, face painting, food trucks, vendors and exhibits.
The festival concludes on Sunday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. with a free Health Expo at the Warrington Recreation Center on Warrington Avenue. Events on Sunday include free food and health screenings, kids’ activities, prize giveaways, a basketball tournament, cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts and more.
“This weekend will be a fun time for everyone involved,” Wheatley said. “And I invite everyone in Pittsburgh to stop by and join in our celebration of summer, community and health.”
