Youngblood: Health care enrollment events critical to community
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 16 – To help constituents gain access to affordable health care, state Rep. Rosita C. Youngblood, D-Phila., hosted a "Get Covered!" health insurance enrollment event today, in conjunction with Enroll America and the Pennsylvania Health Access Network. This was the second "Get Covered!" event Youngblood has held this month.
Youngblood said the goal of the outreach was to connect constituents to advocates who can help them with in-person enrollment assistance – including help with enrollment, checking their status of enrollment, and navigating the website www.healthcare.gov. The Affordable Care Act open enrollment period for 2015 coverage is from Nov. 15, 2014 to Feb. 15, 2015.
"The federal healthcare law has been a point of contention in the media, and has become a political football over the last several years, but the reality is it is helping millions of Americans gain access to affordable insurance," Youngblood said. "But with all of the noise surrounding the law, everyday folks need help in navigating it and actually applying for healthcare coverage. That is why events like today are vital to our communities. I am pleased to have worked with great organizations that are committed to getting people covered."
Youngblood added that she will be hosting several more "Get Covered!" events in the near future, before the Feb. 15, 2015 open enrollment deadline.
"If you’re in need of health insurance and think you might qualify, or know someone who may qualify, please contact my office or look for more information about upcoming open enrollment 'Get Covered!' events," she said.
To date, more than 1.3 million Americans have already selected plans for 2015 Marketplace coverage in the first three weeks of this year’s Open Enrollment period, including people who have renewed their coverage and new customers.
