State lawmakers announce $1.3M in funding for transportation projects in Upper Darby Township

Harrisburg, April 20 – Reps. Gina H. Curry and Mike Zabel, both D-Delaware, announced today that Upper Darby Township has received $1.3 million towards roadway and sidewalk improvements along Garrett Road, also known as the Garrett Road Modernization Multimodal Connectivity Project. These upgrades consist of adding bicycle lanes, ADA-curb ramps, and redesign to support pedestrian safety. “Improving our roads for our pedestrians, drivers and bikers in the Upper Darby Township is vital,” said Curry. “This will help keep our residents safe and potentially reduce traffic accidents.” The project is one of 43 statewide transportation initiatives funded through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under BIL, the administration awarded $54.1 million to the Transportation Alternatives Set- Aside Program to enhance pedestrian and roadway infrastructure. “This project has three positive aspects in that it will improve local roadways, increase safety and promote mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists,” Zabel said. “I’m pleased to see state and federal funding helping to increase connectivity through green options, like bicycling and walking, since I believe they will continue to be a popular and growing option for many residents.” Applications for projects were reviewed by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the state Department of Read more

Zabel announces grant to improve safety at local church

“Gun violence, mass shootings and terroristic acts have become an all-too-familiar part of life,” Zabel said. “Thankfully, this grant program was passed in the wake of the tragic mass shooting that occurred at a synagogue in Squirrel Hill in 2018 that resulted in the murder of 11 people. Upper Darby Township & Sellers Memorial Free Public Library receives state funding

UPPER DARBY, March 10 – State Reps. Gina H. Curry and Mike Zabel, both D-Delaware, announced today $25,000 has been awarded to the Upper Darby Township & Sellers Memorial Free Public Library. The Keystone, Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, awarded by state Department of Education will help fund a planning study to analyze the three township libraries to determine how to modernize the facilities. “I am excited to see the township receive this state funding, which provides hope and promise, as essential steps in the further revitalization of our libraries and improving the overall visitor experience,” said Curry. “Libraries are cornerstones in our communities. The continued investment in our library systems is necessary to keep our facilities safe and updated, as they provide equitable resources and accessibility for our neighborhoods, youth, and community members.” “Libraries serve as great equalizers in our communities, providing free access to information, arts and valuable programs – all that is necessary is a willingness to learn,” Zabel said. “I’m pleased to see the state award a grant to our local libraries to determine how to best move forward to make certain our libraries remain a vital part of our neighborhoods.” The grant will fund half of the total project cost of $50,000.
