I wanted to take a moment to share some reflections on a few meaningful events I recently had the privilege of attending. Each one reminded me of the power of partnership and the importance of coming together to strengthen our community.
I was truly grateful to join the HealthSpark Foundation at their Community of Practice event titled Building Community Solutions: Owning the Narrative. The day offered thoughtful insight as community leaders shared both their perspectives and lived experiences. Together, we elevated the importance of advocacy, honored the voices of those directly affected by our policies, and celebrated the collective efforts shaping the future of our community.
We know that none of the challenges facing us can be solved by one person, one organization, or one institution. Whether we are discussing community safety in response to immigration enforcement, opportunities for youth leadership, or the critical need for affordable housing, lasting progress happens when people come together with shared commitment and care. When leaders from different sectors sit together and exchange ideas, new possibilities for collaboration begin to emerge. These conversations lead to solutions that truly meet the needs of the people we serve.
Equally important is the spirit behind these discussions. It is the belief that we can always strive to do better, the understanding that our neighbors deserve dignity, opportunity, and meaningful support, and the conviction that by working together, we can build communities that are stronger, healthier, and more connected for everyone.

Earlier this year, in February, I had the privilege of assisting One House at a Time, Beds for Kids, as they moved into their new location. This week, I was honored to be invited back for their official opening and deeply humbled to be asked to cut the ribbon for their new facility. It was a moment of true meaning for me.
For those who may not be familiar with their work, One House at a Time provides beds for children who would otherwise go without them. It may appear simple at first glance, yet the impact is profound. A bed represents stability, dignity, and a safe place where a child can rest, grow, and dream. Something so basic can transform the course of a child’s life. This is why I support their mission with both my time and my heart.
What struck me once again during the opening was the unwavering dedication of the One House at a Time team. They show up for children who are among the most vulnerable in our community with consistency, humility, and genuine commitment. They do not simply speak about making a difference; they live that purpose every day. Being a small part of their move felt like contributing to the next chapter of their impact, and I am truly grateful for that opportunity.
If you are seeking a meaningful and tangible way to support local children, I encourage you to consider connecting with One House at a Time. Their mission makes a real difference, and so do the children they serve. My office will continue to serve throughout the year as a drop-off location for donations of children’s books and stuffed animals in support of their work.

I also had the pleasure of hearing from President Bastecki Perez during the annual legislative update. I always look forward to her insights and her deep commitment to the college community, and she once again offered thoughtful and inspiring remarks. This year’s gathering was especially meaningful, as it was held at The Hospitality Institute on campus. It provided a wonderful opportunity to witness the outstanding work taking place there and to connect with so many dedicated leaders, staff members, and students who make MCCC such an essential part of our region.
I left feeling energized by the conversations and grateful for the continued partnership that helps move our community forward as we prepare the next generation of leadership.
