Davidson announces $106,500 in Cultural and Historical Support grants

HARRISBURG, Sept. 11 – State Rep. Nate Davidson, D-Cumberland/Dauphin, today announced $106,500 in state grants to support museums and historical societies serving the Capital Region.
The funding, awarded through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program, supports educational programming, workforce training, exhibitions, and general operating costs.
The grants were awarded to:
- Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts: $47,000 to add a Maker Space to its Innovation Zone for STEM and workforce training.
- National Civil War Museum: $30,000 to offset utility and insurance expenses.
- Cumberland County Historical Society: $20,000 for general operations, exhibitions, and educational programming.
- Historical Society of Dauphin County: $9,500 for staff salaries, utilities, and routine maintenance.
"While history does not repeat, it often rhymes," Davidson said. "Preserving our past and sharing that history with future generations helps us better understand our communities and make informed decisions about where we go next. These organizations also provide educational opportunities, support local jobs, and contribute to the quality of life that makes the Capital Region a strong place to live, work, and visit."
Davidson said the range of projects illustrates the different roles that cultural and historical institutions play in the community. Some funding will directly expand educational and workforce opportunities, while other awards will help organizations cover the routine operating expenses necessary to keep their doors open and their programs available to the public.
"Strong communities depend on institutions that preserve our local history, educate our residents, and create new opportunities to learn," Davidson said. "This state investment supports both sides of that work. It supports new programming and workforce development initiatives while helping these organizations meet the daily operating costs needed to keep their doors open to families, students, and visitors across the region."
