House honors law enforcement officers through Munroe resolutions

HARRISBURG, May 4 – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Wednesday unanimously adopted two resolutions introduced by state Rep. Brian Munroe, D-Bucks, to honor law enforcement officers in the commonwealth and across the U.S.

House Resolution 479 honors the fallen heroes who died in the line of duty in 2025, including Patrolman Andrew Duarte and Police Officers Mark Baker, Cody Becker, Isaiah Emenheiser, and Andy Chan, who all made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

“The brave men and women who make up our law enforcement agencies work hard to ensure the safety of our communities,” said Munroe, who was a police officer in Radnor Township prior to being elected to the House. “In the course of that work, officers selflessly and continually put themselves is harm’s way.”

Similarly, H.R. 483 recognizes the week of May 10 through 16, 2026, as "National Police Week" and recognizes May 15, 2026, as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.

Munroe said that these days, first established by President John F. Kennedy in 1963, are observed annually to honor the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers and encourage a greater appreciation toward the people who dedicate their lives to protecting the public.

According to the state Department of Community and Economic Development, Pennsylvania has more police departments than any other state in the nation and the ninth most law enforcement officers.

“As members of the Law Enforcement Caucus, we endeavor to honor and recognize those who serve and those who gave their lives in the line of duty,” Munroe said. “Their courage strengthens our communities, and their service deserves not only our gratitude, but our lasting respect.”
