Allegheny House Dems announce $800,000 to help reduce youth recidivism
State grant to support formerly incarcerated young adults

PITTSBURGH, June 29 – The state Department of Labor and Industry has awarded nearly $800,000 to support local programs aimed at helping formerly incarcerated youth secure employment, members of the Allegheny County Democratic Delegation to the Pennsylvania House announced today.
“Young adults coming out of our state judicial system still have their whole lives in front of them to make a livelihood for themselves and their families,” said state Rep. Aerion A. Abney, D-Allegheny. “These dollars awarded to the Three Rivers Workforce Development Board are a win-win for them and PA as a whole.”
“One of the best ways to reduce recidivism is to ensure formerly incarcerated individuals can secure employment,” said the delegation chair Rep. Nick Pisciottano. “This funding will directly help local youth stay on the right track and build a career. My colleagues and I will continue fighting to secure awards like this that improve material conditions for residents in Allegheny County.”
The funds will support Young Adult Reentry Allegheny County, a partnership between Partner4Work and other local programs, to help provide 40 young adults opportunities for targeted workforce training programs tied directly to employers. Participants will be recruited based upon their interest in several in-demand industries in Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh, including health care, construction, financial services, transportation and logistics, and other high growth sectors.

In addition to Pisciottano and Abney, the members of the delegation are Reps. Sara Innamorato, Brandon Markosek, Jessica Benham, Dan Deasy, Dan Frankel, Matthew Gergely, Emily Kinkead, Anita Kulik, La’Tasha D. Mayes, Joe McAndrew, Dan Miller, Abigail Salisbury, Mandy Steele and Arvind Venkat.
