NORRISTOWN, Sept. 16 – State Rep. Greg Scott, D-Montgomery, and Elmwood Park Zoo today celebrated $400,000 in state funding awarded to the Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority that will broaden the ways residents can access the zoo property.
The funds will be used to extend the existing Norristown Farm Park bike and walking path through the zoo’s property, creating a stronger connection between the zoo and the neighborhoods surrounding it.
“This investment is an exciting step toward making Elmwood Park Zoo and our surrounding community even more connected and accessible,” said Al Zone, CEO of Elmwood Park Zoo.
“Extending the Norristown Farm Park bike and walking path through our campus will help create an important connection between the Farm Park and the Schuylkill River Trail, giving the community another safe and accessible way to experience everything our area has to offer. We’re grateful to Representative Scott and his team for supporting a project that will benefit Norristown and Montgomery County.”
“Creating new ways for our residents to get outside, enjoy our neighborhoods, and take advantage of our area attractions strengthens our sense of community and brings people together,” said Scott. “I’m excited to see this project receive support and look forward to the day the path is complete.”
The grants come from Local Share Account funds, which are approved and distributed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
