$2.7 million in grants awarded to 33rd District
I’m pleased to report that more than $2.7 million in state grants was awarded this week to fifteen worthwhile projects in our district. The grants were approved Thursday by the state’s Commonwealth Financing Authority. These grants will protect our enviroment, renovate buildings, maintain our infrastructure, and make our roads and sidewalks safer. I’m happy to be an advocate for our district in Harrisburg, and I’m thrilled to see these dollars coming back home.
My Jan. 21 town hall on cell phones in schools
The House is considering my bipartisan bill that would restrict cell phone use in PA schools, and I also want to hear from you about the issue. I will be holding a town hall on cell phones in schools from 6 to 7 p.m. on January 21 at Cooper-Siegel Community Library in the James I. Mitnick Room.
My H.B. 1814, currently pending in the House Education Committee, would require all public schools in Pennsylvania to restrict student cell phone possession and use during the school day, with exceptions for certain emergency and medical needs approved by school authorities. If enacted, Pennsylvania would join more than 20 other states that prohibit student phone use during the school day.
Read more about the issue in my recent op-ed: here.
My National Heritage Award
Last week in Memphis, I was deeply honored to receive the 2025 National Heritage Award from the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation at the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses.
It was a humbling moment for me. I’ll continue to work hard for PA’s wildlife, wild places, and all the people who love our great outdoors as much as I do!
Allegheny County receives $7.3 million to aid crime victims and community safety
I’m pleased to report that Allegheny County was awarded $7.3 million in grants last week to aid crime victims and community safety programs. The funding comes from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
Our county relies on these grants, and they will benefit our community in many ways—from helping victims navigate the courts to treating addictions to preventing child abuse. Read more about the awards here.
My office is collecting food donations
With more families struggling to put food on the table, my office is serving as a drop-off site for food donations. If you are able, please consider donating non-perishable food items, which we will deliver weekly to food banks and pantries in our area. Stop by any weekday between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at my Cheswick office at 1296 Pittsburgh St.
Pennsylvania's Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program helps older friends and neighbors stay in their homes while affording life's necessities, but the annual deadline for applications is approaching. The filing deadline is December 31. The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities 18 or older. Rebates range from $380 to $1,000.
Learn more about the program here. My staff are available to assist with applications, so don’t hesitate to contact my district office.
